Nike Lunar Trainer

by Shawn
(Philadelphia)

The Lunar Trainer is a light weight performance trainer. It has a soft yet resilient sole made out of Nike's new lunar lite foam.

The design of the shoe is flashy with the bright yellow sole. It has a extra wide base which extends beyond the forefoot. I found this to be great for my natural gait. I'm an underpronator and this was good in keeping my foot more neutral upon landing.

Durability has been an issue with me for many of the shoes I've run in. I have over 300 miles on these shoes and they still have a lot of wear left. I was suprised by the mileage I've been able to get.

I'd recommend a higher sock when your running in these shoes. The achilles area can become irritated in no show socks but is easily cured with a pair of higher socks.

Overall I'm very happy with the shoes and excited to see what the 2nd version of the shoe is like in 2009.

Lunar Trainer and Racer fit
by: craighton

While many shoes are "soft" and fit well right out of the box, these Lunar shoes are a little snug in spots and require some adjustment.

The first time that I wore the Lunar Trainer, I wore a thick cushioned sock and developed a blister which is very rare for me. I switched to a very thin sock and had no hot spots. The third time I wore them, I ran the NY marathon using the thin socks and my feet felt fine without sore spots the next day.

I have worn the Lunar racer for 10K and 5K races and have been pleased with the responsiveness, just enough cushioning, and feather weight. Surprisingly, there are more carbon sole pads for high wear areas than on the trainer.

Several reviewers have complained about the lack of a cut out for the achilles; however, the height from the bottom of the heel cup to the top is the same or lower than other running shoes. The lack of a cut out or notch for the achilles has not been an issue for me.
