Asics GT2140
As a podiatrist, some people are curious why I seem to have a penchant for Asics GT2140. Then they'd follow it up with another curious question whether I recommend Asics GT 2140 to most of my patients. The answer is yes of course but I'm always quick to add that there's no vested interest in that. I once tried sounding off to the local specialty shoe dealer about the large number of customers who bought the Asics GT2140 from his outlet out of my recommendation but it was no good. Either the dealer didn't know how to take a hint or just plain stingy.
Anyway once they start asking question like that, it will always lead to the subject of ankle sprains and the tendencies of runners to hurt their peroneals. You see, the human foot has two peroneal tendons associated with two significant muscles that actually originate from the calf muscle. These are the muscles that make the outward roll of your foot possible while the peroneal tendons that support them act more like stirrups as they support the arch of the foot.
Sports like basketball, skiing, football and running often lead to incidents that cause peroneal tendon dislocations. In order to avoid the frequency of these incidences, athletes are advised to wear the right shoes that will provide the reliable arch support as well as stability. Frequency of such injuries can cause the ligaments to overstretch and may thus require surgery in the long run.
What I Recommend :
Now you've guessed it right of course, I most often recommend the Asics GT2140 because they provide support but at the same time are light enough. I wear them because I cannot recommend something that I myself haven't tested. Actually, I do not recommend a brand because the patient's comfort is more important which he or she is entrusting to me.
They go to the nearest running shoe outlet nearby, check out my recommendations then have their feet, gait and the shoes analyzed. The final decision to settle on Asics GT 2140 still depends on how the patient feels. Come to think of it, that must be why the outlet owner didn't take my hint seriously; patients actually tried on different pairs. One thing is for sure though, majority of those who settled for Asics running shoes, bought the black Asics 2140.
Black or white or with tint, I recommend not the brand but the structure for a type of foot and the injury it suffers. Flat footed individuals who have that difficulty of maintaining their balance can stress their heels when making heel strikes for lack of arches.
Asics GT2140 has enough flexibility and in fact has more of a springy effect with a good combination of cushioning comfort. It has the flexibility of the Solyte midsole material and the reliability of the Duomax support system which ensure the stability the foot. The runner needs to protect his arches with its lack of curvature when making the heel to toe stride.
Actually the structure of the Asics GT2140 is quite simple but all responsive for a flat-footed runner's performance. The runner can avoid over stretching his peroneal tendons when trying to keep his foot from rolling outwards. Flat footed runners tend to lose foothold, sprain ankles much too often and wear out the peroneal tendons with over stretching.
In time, I will find one of these runners visiting my clinic and will ask me again if the Asics GT2140 I'm wearing is any good. Of course, they are even for walking, that's why it's part of my daily get-up. You see I'm a flat-footed podiatrist myself.
